The
Sacrum...
unquestionably, one of
the most important and vulnerable structures of the human skeletal
system. Our center of gravity is positioned here and it is on this
bone that all of the mechanical movements of the body are centered.
The sacrum supports
the weight of the upper body, plus any additional loads we carry,
disturbing the weight through the lower extremities. Eight muscles
attach to the sacrum, connecting it to and with all other major
parts of the body. Amy position out of the normal positioning of
the sacrum will affect 1 or more of the 8 muscles. When this balance
is disturbed due to injury, the slightest movement of an arm, leg,
head or neck is immediately felt in the low back region. Any movement,
which we make, requires stabilization and strength from this region.
This disturbance of balance results in a distortion of the function
and structure of the sacrum, resulting in pain, discomfort and dysfunction
with the potential of causing sever effects associated with every
system of the body. Dysfunction, no matter how slight, eventually
produces fatigue and disease within the system allowed to continue,
degenerative changes due to the production and build up of lactic
acid, toxins and the loss of abundant oxygenation to the muscle
tissue, result in fatigue and exhaustion of the system.
The body can rebuild and
repair at a cellular level if the strain is corrected. Through rest,
hypration, structural assignment, manual therapies and condition
appropriate exercises, damaged living tissue can be restored.
